The Washington D.C. Community in collaboration with Northeastern University’s College of Arts, Media, and Design will present a conversation with Professor Meg Heckman: “How local news affects national politics.”
During her talk, Professor Heckman will discuss how local media investigates stories, what they produce for the own districts, and how it has large implications on the national political scene.
Meg Heckman is a journalist, author and educator focused on building a news ecosystem that is robust, diverse and equipped to serve all segments of society. She is an assistant professor of journalism and a faculty affiliate of the NULab for Texts, Maps and Networks. Heckman’s latest book, Political Godmother: Nackey Scripps Loeb and the Newspaper that Shook the Republican Party, is a case study in how one unusually powerful local newspaperwoman helped shape the contours of the modern conservative movement.
