It takes highly skilled, passionate and determined individuals to produce high quality publications. Each year NENPA recognizes the achievements of the very best newspaper professionals in New England in our Better Newspaper Competition.

This competition draws over 3,000 entries that are published between August of the previous year through July of the current year. The entries are evaluated by the New England Newspaper & Press Association’s distinguished panel of judges. The results of the competition celebrate the excellent journalism that is taking place throughout New England — see current and past finalists and winners, along with the judges’ comments.

NENPA is very proud to recognize this truly extraordinary work!

NENPA recognizes the extraordinary achievements of newspapers and newspaper personnel in the six-state New England region by presenting a wide variety of prestigious awards each year.

The New England Newspaper of the Year award recognizes the region’s highest quality newspapers based on experts’ and readers’ impression of the quality of their reporting and writing, use of photos, design and presentation, online offering, and overall utility and value (categorized by circulation level).

This competition is unlike any other in our industry because the winners are selected by the audience – panels of newspaper readers. Editors receive feedback from the readers in order to glean strategic insight about how their paper compares with its peers and to identify ways to increase its effectiveness and appeal.

The New England Society of News Editors presents several prestigious awards each year to journalists in the region who are so expert and accomplished that they have truly “mastered” their craft. At the same time, NESNE also recognizes New England journalism’s most promising up-and-comers.
