Founded in 2006, The Commons is a nonprofit weekly newspaper committed to amplifying the voices of southern Vermont’s diverse communities. Initially published monthly, it transitioned to a weekly schedule in 2010 and now publishes 51 issues per year. As one of the first newspapers in the country to be recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, The Commons stands out for its commitment to local journalism that reflects the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Commons reaches readers through more than 250 distribution points in Windham County, as well as neighboring towns in Windsor, Cheshire, and Franklin counties. It’s also available online, through direct-to-person email delivery, and via home delivery, supported by tax-deductible donations, advertising, and charitable foundations.
