Richard C. “Dick” Lee, 85, of East Greenwich, R.I., died July 11 in Newport, R.I.

He was employed at The Providence (R.I.) Journal for 33 years and wrote about high school sports for about 20 years.

As a writer, he focused on girls athletics and helped girls sports become prominent in the newspaper’s reporting.

Bogen leaves five children, James, Richard Andy, Glenn and Bethany; four grandchildren, Wendi, Ryann, Kirk and Jason; two step-grandchildren, Peter and Kellie.
