Journalism takes us places we might not otherwise see, leads us to people we might not otherwise meet, and prompts us to capture experiences we might not otherwise document. And journalists often carry those stories with them long after they are published. Whether you travel across the country or across the street for work, “You Are Here” is here for you. This virtual meetup is for journalists to explore where their personal and professional lives intersect.

“You Are Here” is a new series of community conversations designed as a safe space for journalists to meet virtually and explore topics that family and friends who aren’t in the field may not quite understand. Come as you are — from wherever you are — for camaraderie, clarity, and connection with fellow journalists.

The first gathering will be Friday, August 6 at 11:30 a.m. ET. The topic will be, “What has journalism cost you?” Journalism may have cost you relationships, your emotional wellbeing, your safety or financial stability. Join us to connect with others whose lives and work have intersected in similar ways.

Among the topics we’ll cover this year are:
    – What’s bringing you joy in journalism right now? (Sept. 10)
    – How do I know when it’s time to go? (Oct. 1)

Meetings will be from 11:30 to noon ET the first Friday of each month, hosted and facilitated by the National Press Club Journalism Institute staff with a guest navigator joining some meetings.
