RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with reporters/MMJs and other content managers to foster the creation of timely, accurate, informative and thought-provoking reports.
  • Manage and produce innovative content for all Courant platforms, with critical focus on growth in the digital and social arenas.  Monitor trends and audience patterns to make sure the Courant’s digital space is the go-to place to get and share information.
  • Coordinate and manage the presentation of stories, information, photos and video for all appropriate digital channels, including daily management of relevant channel on courant.com.  Craft and execute a digital plan for all stories.
  • Meet or exceed daily metrics for page views, photo views, video views, social media shares and other measures.
  • Hand off stories to other managers as required for final editing.
  • Solicit feedback from readers and users, gauging interest in the news of the day.
  • Monitor competing websites, print publications, bloggers and others reporting on the community.
  • Direct reporters to assign and/or shoot photos and video to accompany stories.  Build or work with reporters to build photo galleries and photo essays.
  • Use social media, including Facebook and Twitter, to drive interaction.
  • Play a leadership role in the advancement of the “Digital First” agenda among the Courant and FOX news staffs, including organizing training, education and the development of best practices.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree preferred

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting is looking for the next leader of this well-established non-profit, nonpartisan investigative news service. Its founders are taking a reduced role and the Center is now searching for a new executive editor/senior reporter to both write investigative stories about Maine state government and run this small but feisty organization. The Center has broken more than 200 stories, changed laws and won regional awards over the last five years, all without ever once quoting an anonymous source.

We are looking for a top-notch investigative reporter with a nose for great stories who can write those stories for readers and who can direct the work of other writers. You would also supervise the chief operating officer, who assists you in all fundraising and administrative work.  Salary in the mid-50s.  Fully-paid health care. Job Description:

The executive editor/senior reporter is responsible for leading all aspects of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting and researching and writing investigative news stories.
