POLITICAL REPORTER

The Providence Journal is seeking a reporter to cover politics, the state legislature, the executive branch of government, and, when necessary, general news. This reporter will work a combination of days and nights and some weekend shifts.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in political science, journalism or a related field; at least two years of daily newspaper and/or online experience covering politics; proficiency in the use of major social media platforms, Excel and other tools to analyze budget and campaign-finance data. Experience with CCI, Escenic and WordPress a plus.

The successful candidate should also have the ability to write on multiple platforms including short breaking-news posts, mid-length one-day stories and in-depth public policy stories. He or she will be ethical, innovative and vigilant in the matters of accuracy, fairness and diversity. He or she will also be familiar with laws related to libel, privacy, public access and freedom of information.
