Job Description: Executive Editor/Senior Reporter

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting is looking for the next leader of this well-established non-profit, nonpartisan investigative news service. Its founders are taking a reduced role and the Center is now searching for a new executive editor/senior reporter to both write investigative stories about Maine state government and run this small but feisty organization. The Center has broken more than 200 stories, changed laws and won regional awards over the last five years, all without ever once quoting an anonymous source.

We are looking for a top-notch investigative reporter with a nose for great stories who can write those stories for readers and who can direct the work of other writers. You would also supervise the chief operating officer, who assists you in all fundraising and administrative work.  Salary in the mid-50s.  Fully-paid health care. Based at the Maine Statehouse in Augusta.

Job Description:

The executive editor/senior reporter is responsible for leading all aspects of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting and researching and writing investigative news stories. The executive editor/senior reporter is responsible for the budget, including fundraising and spending. The executive editor/senior reporter sets and directs the editorial content.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Center’s mission to provide independent, nonpartisan investigative reporting about Maine state government to its readers through its website and media partners.
  • Sets the editorial direction and has the final say on content.
  • Researches, writes and edits investigative stories to be published by the Center and its media partners.
  • Recommends and administers the annual budget.
  • Oversees and participates in fundraising and other revenue generation.
  • Nurtures and maintains relationships with funders and media partners.
  • Communicates the Center’s mission to the public.
  • Supervises staff and contractors.

Qualifications:

  • Basic multimedia reporting and production skills; ability to wrangle a website.
  • Preferred: experience in a newsroom leadership role.

The Keene Sentinel, an award-winning daily serving the beautiful and culturally rich Monadnock Region of Southwestern N.H., is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, forward-thinking leader to fill the role of Assistant Managing Editor.

The right candidate will have strong people skills, a shrewd editing sense and a creative vision. This person will also be a problem-solver, have a strong work ethic and take satisfaction in inspiring young journalists.

This is very much a hands-on position; days are fast-paced. ART DIRECTOR

Providence Business News seeks a creative, self-starting designer yearning to become an integral part of a team reinventing Southern Rhode Island’s leading business publication. We have recently re-designed PBN’s print product, and this new look demands not just better visuals, but a more imaginative approach to storytelling, both in words and in images. The art director will design and produce each week’s edition as well as all our special sections that coincide with PBN’s robust recognition and summit panels. This Operating Committee position will have overall responsibility for the publication and profitability of Shore Publishing, a network of seven weekly newspapers from Old Saybrook to North Haven, Connecticut.
