This honor is presented posthumously to George W. Wilson, longtime publisher of the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire and president of Newspapers of New England, Inc. In nearly 40 years with the company Wilson built newspapers known for aiming higher than their small size. As a result, Monitor journalists are regularly sought out by the nation’s most prestigious news organizations. Wilson served on the board of the Associated Press and was named president of both the American Newspaper Publishers Association and the New England Daily Newspaper Association, and he was a member of the board of directors of the Washington Post.
