Astead is a national politics reporter at The New York Times and a political analyst for CNN. At the New York Times, Mr. Herndon has covered the presidential campaigns of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, as well as leading coverage of Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and the Times work on race and identity. Before joining The New York Times in 2018, Mr. Herndon held several reporter positions at The Boston Globe. Most recently, he was a national politics reporter, covering the Trump White House. He also spent time as a City Hall reporter and a general assignment Metro reporter.
The event will be moderated by CommonWealth Magazine reporter Sarah Betancourt. Sarah is a long-time Latinx reporter. Prior to joining CommonWealth Magazine, Sarah was a breaking news reporter for The Associated Press and a correspondent for The Boston Globe and The Guardian. She has written about immigration, incarceration, and health policy for outlets like NBC, The Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, and the New York Law Journal.
