Once again, the New England Press Educational Foundation will be offering several $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and college students pursuing a career in journalism through its Hometown Scholars Program.

The scholarships will go to a graduating high school senior or college student from the New England region. The deadline for the Spring 2010 scholarship applications is April 15, 2010.

As a NENPA member, here's how you can help the foundation and the region's budding journalists. Your newspaper may choose to nominate a scholarship recipient for selection by our scholarship committee. You may want to identify eligible students through your contacts with the local school systems or the use of house ads, NIE or other student programs, or all of those combined. Candidates may apply through you or can be referred directly to the foundation at 781-320-8050.

Though a letter of recommendation is not required, you might want to consider it if you have an applicant you feel is particularly qualified.

Our job is to help provide an education for young journalists. We hope you will help us get the word out about this scholarship opportunity.
